Welcome to Whispering Pretty Stories
Hi! My name is Kristy. I have always been an avid reader and, thanks in large to part to my love of books, I earned my Master's of Library Science in 2011. I have worked as a school librarian and and a public librarian.
My favorite genres include urban fantasy, high fantasy, dystopian, SciFi, and magical realism. But I'll read almost any fiction, as long as it's good. One of my favorite authors is Sarah Addison Allen, a fellow Asheville native and writer of magical realism. Favorite series include the Jane True series by Nicole Peeler (freaking hilarious urban fantasy - a great mix of humor, raunchiness, and an extended family of friends and allies) and the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness (beautifully written urban fantasy). If you're looking for a quick recommendation, start with those ladies. You won't be disappointed. Whispering Pretty Stories is my little spot of the Internet where I write about books I've read and you all can tell me how you liked them or didn't like them. When I was younger, I always wanted a bookstore called Whispering Pretty Stories and since I'll probably never have that, I thought I would name my blog after it. For those who don't know, Dean Martin had a song called "Carolina in the Morning". When I was in 1st grade, my class sang this song in one of the PTA programs and the phrase Whispering Pretty Stories has always stuck with me. The lyrics are below, courtesy of http://www.actionext.com/names_d/dean_martin_lyrics/carolina_in_the_morning.html Thank you for stopping by. I hope you enjoy yourself while you're here. Questions? Nothing could be finer than to be in Carolina in the morning
No one could be sweeter than my sweetie when I meet her in the morning Where the morning glories twine around the door Whispering pretty stories I long to hear once more Strolling with my girlie where the dew is pearly early in the morning Butterflies all flutter up and kiss each buttercup at dawning If I had Aladdin's lamp for only a day I'd make a wish and here's what I'd say Nothing could be finer than to be in Carolina in the morning |
Kristy's bookshelf: read
There were a couple of scenes that were too much and went too far, but still has the fun vibe of the first one.
