A Drop in the Ocean is a story about Anna, a neuroscientist researcher focusing on Parkinson's Disease. She finds out in the first couple of chapters that the grant that had funded her research (and her income) for years has not been renewed. She has to start over.
Anna reminds me of Caroline from The Perfect Comeback of Caroline Jacobs. Anna has her job and one friend.
I won't get into too much of the plot because, well, there isn't really a plot. It's the story of Anna finally becoming someone as she turns 50. At times, Anna is petulant and pouty. Every once in a while, she is strong and courageous. I didn't really like Anna most of the time. But I did like the other characters in the book.
This book would be a good read if you are introverted and have dreamed about leaving everything and running away to a tropical island in the middle of nowhere.
