I received this ebook as an ARC from netgalley.com.
It's refreshing to read a book that ends on the last page. As much as I enjoy series, I also enjoy singles.
Emma has suffered a devastating loss. Her boyfriend died while they were dating. She mourned for months. Then Alex walked into her life.
From the first time they saw each other, they knew they had a connection. And really, without giving anything else away, that's all I can say about the plot.
Once again, I'm not a fan of scary movies, but books with horror in them don't bother me at all. Even when Emma went into detail with her visions of "dead" Daniel, it didn't really bother me. The descriptions of what Emma sees on Alex's estate were definitely grotesque and Rought's descriptive language left nothing to the imagination.
I love how the last several books I've read have had a great best friend and this one was no different. Bree is exactly the counter Emma needs to balance the story. I also love Emma's super-overprotective parents. I can totally remember mine saying the same things.
Rought's writing style and use of higher level vocabulary is a nice change from many YA books. I appreciated the mature thoughts of Emma and her friends. It made them seem like older souls, which fits into the theme of the book very well.
I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy scary books.
