I wasn’t sure what to expect when I chose this book. I saw that it had won some awards and was on the short list for others, so I figured I would read it. I spent much of the book confused, most of it in a good way. The concept is great. But trying to put it concisely is difficult. It’s a bit dystopian, contemporary, science fiction, mystery, conspiracy theory, and paranormal all rolled into one. Sloan does it in a way that’s not in your face or over the top and how he is able to combine all these elements and not have a book that is jumbled and that actually make sense is beyond me. That’s talent, IMO.
I am not going to go into any of the plot because if I even try to explain it, I’ll not only confuse you greatly, but I will surely give something away. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good story that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
