I was approved for the ARC of Iron Traitor before I realized I hadn’t read The Lost Prince, which is the 1st in this spin-off series from the Iron Fey series. Oops.
The Lost Prince was just as good as any of the Iron Fey books. I love the addition of Kenzie. She is spirited, feisty, and an overall hoot. I love how she pushes Ethan around. She is a little reminiscent of Meghan, but not enough that it seems like a character rehash. Love, love, love that she has __________ and that’s why everyone around her wants to protect her. But Ethan doesn’t know. Poetic, beautiful, and tragic all at once. *sigh* That’s why we love these books, right?
I remember closing this book and thinking that it ended well. It could have stopped there, but it was open enough that there was definitely a need for a follow up. I like books in a series that end like that, especially when you have to wait a year for the next one. Why oh why do publishers do that????
Anyway, I recommend this book to the eons of YA readers who loved the Iron Fey series. But you really do have to read all the Iron Fey books to fully appreciate this spin-off. I couldn’t imagine coming into The Lost Prince not having the background knowledge of the Fey Realm.
