Besides, who doesn't love an underdog? That's the beauty of YA books. Typically, teenagers are considered underdogs because they don't have the experience or understanding an adult has gained throughout the years, but in a YA book, that doesn't matter. The main characters of YA books have a different take on problems adults have had to deal with and oftentimes, they have a differentiated response to an issue.
YA books also allow a reader to transcend normal genres. In what other category of literature can a reader find such a wide variety of genres in such a small section of the library? My 2,000 book fiction section covers every. single. theme. that ever existed.
I want to give a hug shout-out to Beth Revis for offering up a massive collection of YA books in a raffle. She really made me think about why I enjoy reading YA books (even though I'm not a teenager).
